The FCC has followed up with it's plans to disconnect any long distance locals everywhere in the nation. What that means for Alaska Rural Residents is that if you live in one of the 3 DMA's (Designated Marketing Areas) as defined by the Nielson Media group, you will need to receive those locals and ONLY those locals. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO VIEW LONG DISTANCE LOCALS ANY LONGER. The 3 DMA's for Alaska are: Anchorage Fairbanks Juneau The way you can tell is by calling DISH Network directly @ 800-333-3474 and requesting you local channels. They will in turn tell you what is needed. This was fought hard by representatives of TSG along with ALL retailers in Alaska as we all know how different this state is from all the others. In the end, the FCC has ruled that Alaska, as with every other state, have to comply with these rulings. You may see the FCC's summary of this @ http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/shvera.pdf . In short, if you live in a rural area now, you may be required to add an additional dish to receive your local DMA's local channels. If you live in the Anchorage DMA, you will not need to do this but you will need to call DISH @ 800-333-3474 to ask for the Anchorage Local Channels. You may also see for yourself what DMA you receive by going to DISH's Local qualifier site by clicking the link below. TSG does not have a lot of customers in Rural Alaska but thought that it prudent to notify you as best we can about this ruling. If you should have any questions about this ruling, you may contact DISH @ 800-333-3474. Sincerely,
Jason Gardner |
